It's Been Awhile

Hi Sewing Friends,

It has been awhile since I posted any sewing projects.  A lot has happened in the past month and a half.  Here are some highlights.

Me and one of my sewing students made a trek up to Vogue Fabrics in Evanston to see what we could see and buy.  Lol

I had an eye procedure to remove a cyst from my right eye.  It had been there for over a year but didn't hurt. What brought me to the ophthalmologist in the first place was I had started seeing floaters in that same eye.  To my surprise, I learned that floaters are a common condition that happens with age.  The eye becomes more fluid over time.  Anyway, the cyst was removed mid March, and it took some time for my eye to heal.

Other news, my nephew, Christopher wanted to make a turkey dinner, but didn't know how.  I volunteered to teach  him how to roast a turkey, cook collar greens, corn, and make some buttery potatoes.  His meal turned out very well.  We sat down with my daughter and had a lovely dinner.

We had two book club meetings: March and April.  Both books were good, but I like the second the most.

I didn't take any photos of my garments until a month after my eye procedure.  Now, I'm just starting to post me wearing them.

I'm showcasing Vogue V1937 view A, worn with Vogue V1929 pants.

What I Wore on Christmas - V1835

I have just a few more 2024 projects that I'll post before moving on to my 2025 sewing.  This lounge outfit was actually the last project I made in 2024.

This was my Christmas outfit.  I was glad to host Christmas day.  I enjoy having my family over, and we had a festive time.

There isn't much to review with this outfit; because I made it before in 2022.  Here is the link to that review.

There are just a few small changes that I made for this version:

  • I ruched the lower left side and the lower sleeve.
  • If you plan to do the cold shoulder, you'll need to adjust the length of the left sleeve by a few inches.
  • I lengthen the sleeve and pant leg.
No other changes.

My fabric was purchased at JoAnn's Fabrics.  I pre-washed and dry it.  It came from the dryer soft and ready to cut into.  Sewing was a breeze.  I really like how quickly this  pattern sews up.

This is a very comfortable set to wear around the house.  Lately, I'm enjoying the "cute" lounge clothes.  There may be a few more of these sets added to my comfy wardrobe. Lol

Happy Sewing!

Trinity Church in Boston Massachusetts - First Stop on Vacation

We returned home from vacation.  And today I'm spending a little time reflecting on our trip.  It was a good relaxing vacation where we spent our days cruises Northeast to Maine and Canada.  First we flew into Boston, Massachusetts, spending a day at Copley Square.

It's funny how with each vacation, we find ourselves visiting a place of worship.  This time it was Trinity Church in Boston.  A very old and beautiful edifice.  As we walked Copley Square where a huge book festival was taking place, there stood Trinity church.  We decided to go in.  They have self-guided tours with audio assistance from just $10.00.  Who could pass it up.  Trinity was established in the 1600's and founded at the current location in 1733.  It is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts.

The Eagle represents God's word taking flight.

Many different artists were commission to complete the interior of the church.  Each of them brought their own unique style and artistry to create a fantastic work of beauty.  The stained glass windows alone where created by several different artisans.

I was very glad I decided to take the tour.  It peaked my curiosity and I wanted to know more about the history of the church. (I'll research later.) While I was there though, I took several pictures. They don't do it justice, but you'll get the idea of how breathtaking it is.

More information about Trinity Church in Boston is here.
