What's Going On

Hi everyone,

It's been a minute! Okay, several minutes (weeks) since I last posted.  I've been quiet on the blog this month, but I'm busy working multiple projects with most of my sewing time being sent of my latest coat project. This will be the second year that I chose to make a coat close to Spring instead of in the fall.  Believe it or not, it's a good time to make a coat in preparation for the next fall/winter season.  The excitement of having something new is not lost because it is the end of the season make.  Living in the mid west, I can expect at least two more months of cold weather and will probably get to wear my new coat at least a few times before it's stored in the coat closet. Then when winter comes again, it will be just as nice to have a new made coat to keep me warm.

My new coat is made using a Simplicity Project Runway pattern that I purchased many years ago.  I'm calling it a coat of many pieces.  The version that I'm making requires the use of 21 pattern pieces.  That's a lot!  I'm using a black wool blend from Minerva Crafts online store.  The plan this weekend is to finish my coat.  So stay tune to the reveal and full review.

Another thing that has been keeping me busy is pattern preparation for upcoming projects.  This year, I'll be trying several new jacket and dress patterns.  When I say "new" I mean it will be the first time to make something using them.  I'm continuing my plan to make a variety of jackets/coats to complement my wardrobe.  Additionally, my dress collection is a little anemic, in my mind. ;-).  There are a few I want to make this spring and summer.  Below are a few that I'm currently working on with  potential fabric already to cut and sew.

So, that's my little sewing update.  Hopefully I'll have another post up before next week.

Happy Sewing!

Lovely Blogger Award

Big Thanks to Lori and L for the Lovely Blogger award.  These two "Lovely" creative bloggers gave me an award!

The rules of the award are as follows:

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Add The One Lovely Blog Award/The Very Inspiring Blogger Award to your post
  • Share 7 things about yourself
  • Pass the award on to 10 nominees
  • Include this set of rules
  • Inform your nominees by posting a comment on their blogs

Seven Things About Me:  honestly, I think my blog tells quite a bit about me.  But I tell seven things anyway.

  • This year I turned 50 and am very happy to be above ground.
  • I'm the 2012-13 Fashion Show Chairperson  for the Haute Couture Club of Chicago.  I didn't think I was qualified because I'm inexperienced in this area.  We will see how it goes. Wink, wink.
  • Two years ago, I was diagnosed with scoliosis.  I always wondered why I had prominent shoulder blades and a swayed back.
  • I'm kind of nerdy.  I love science.  As a kid, I was also one of the first people to volunteer for the science fair.
  • I'm a daddy's girl.  My dad passed in 2006 and I miss him. He was my confidant and devoted adviser.
  • I'm a foodie.  I love trying different cuisine and watching the food network.
  • I'm seriously thinking about retiring in the next five years.  Hopefully, I can do more teaching  and sewing.
  • You can count on me to cry during sad or happy scenes in movies.

Now the hard part, nominating ten creative souls.

  • 1 - The super generous and acutely talented Rhonda Buss.  The is one phonenmenal creative woman.  Rhonda's "online design school" is priceless.  It has inspired me to experiment with patter drafting.  Every week she features a free pattern and showcases fellow creative souls.  Rhonda is a gem.
  • 2 - Allison C.  I absolutely love the things this woman makes.  Very polished and pristine.
  • 3 - You can count on Faye Lewis to inspire the sewing ladies to join a sew along.  It sparks creativity and encourages others to try something new.
  • 4  & 5 - Andrea and Sheila.  These two ladies are my friends.  We can talk for hours on the phone about, you know, sewing.  To top that they are expert knitters.  Boy do I wish they lived in my town.
  • 6  -  Bunny is another sewing expert who give free online lessons.  She meticulously shares how to details in sewing.
  • 7 - I've appreciated Ann's teachings for over ten years.  I like became acquainted with her on PatternReview.com where she shared excellent details of her sewing projects.
  • 8 - I think everyone knows of Carolyn.  This woman given new life to the concept of the TNT pattern.  The sista can work a pattern!
  • 9 - Irene is another favorite.  Her designs are clean and polished.
  • 10 - I hate to stop at ten because there are so many great sewing designers out there.  For the sake of this nomination process.  I'd like to end with Pam who makes the most beautiful tailored shirts.  I wish.
So this completes the nomination process for me.  Enjoy everyone.

Beautiful Blogger Award - Thanks Victoria!

The fabulous Victoria have me a Beautiful Blogger Award. Thanks much!

Man, oh man! I've had hardly any time for sewing or blogging. Argh! Argh! I should have posted this entry two weeks ago. I'll be glad when things settle down so I can enjoy my crafts again. Work is busy, busy. We are in the process of "proving the worth" of the application (yet again). I'm demo'ing and demo'ing then compiling stats and other information. Jesus! I guess it's necessary in this current economy.

I'm supposed to tell ten things about myself. It's going to be brief. Then give ten other fabulous sewing sistas a Beautiful Blogger Award.

Ten things:
1. I work in IT for a major research university.
2. I've worked for the university for 27 years. Academia is a good place to work if you want a free education. And your children get discounts too. wink, wink.
3. I'm the eldest of four daughters; I only have one DD.
4. I'm a proud member of the Haute Couture Club of Chicago. I've missed the first two meetings of this season due to church activities.
5. Vacation is near, I can't wait; I'll be cruising to Mexico.
6. I'm very fortunate to have a close knit family. Me and my sisters enjoy each others company. We are the best of friends. Joy.
7. Can you say, Daddy's girl? That's me. I lost my dad in 2006. Everyday I think of him.
8. Divorced almost seven years. If you can live with the "imperfections", don't do it. Everyone loses. Remember 90 percent of "stuff" is little. Only 10 percent is serious business.
9. I'm a little bit on the nerdy side. Love science.
10. Turner Classic Movie is my number one cable station. I have almost zero tolerance for reality TV.

Now the best part, Here are eleven, not ten fabulous sewing bloggers who I would like to present with the Beautiful Blogger Award.

Awards!

At years end Linda of Danvillegirl Sewing Diary presented me with two awards Sugar Doll and the Honest Scrap Awards. At the beginning of the year Trudy of Sewing with Trudy gave me other Honest Scrap Award. Thank you very much, ladies. So thoughtful of you.

Today I'm acknowledging and accepting both awards by following the guidelines:

1. Thank the person who gave you the award.
2. Tell ten interesting things about yourself (oh, boy-- don't have much to tell).
3. Nominate seven other creative, inspiring bloggers .

Interesting things - That's hard. I may have to repeat things already told. Here goes. Oh, yeah...., I have some new stuff....,

1. Still working for the University of Illinois during this time of cutbacks and layoffs. Twenty-six years and counting. Thank God.

2. Proud Mama..., My DD is finishing up her Business degree and will be a Voters' Administrator for the upcoming election.

3. Officially became a member of the Haute Couture Club of Chicago by invitation. Thanks to M. Moser. She found me on Patti Palmer's website.

4. As a kid I wanted to be some kind of scientist always conducting experiments.

5. I love my sisters and enjoy their company. We are tighter than Dick's hat band.

6. I am the epitome of a Daddy's girl. I miss him ...,

7. Is making efforts to purchase a home.

8. Wants to go on an Alaskan cruise.

9. Since ten, I have been fascinated with making things: sewing crocheting, knitting, drawing, etc.

10. Used to play the flute.

Nomination of a few bloggers I follow. This is my least favorite part of the nomination process. There are hundreds of creative bloggers that I'd like to nominate. It's extremely hard to just name a few. In the true spirit of the cyberspace "award" eventually all of my fellow creative, sewing bloggers will be nominated. So here are a few favorites:

Summerset's Pins and Needles
Tany's Couture et Tricot
Marj's FiberArt Afloat
Erica's Erica B.'s DIY Style
Carolyn's Diary of a Sewing Fanatic
Lindsay's Lindsay T Sews
Cidell's Miss celie's Pants

Happy Sewing!

Kreativ Blogger Award 2009

Thanks to three lovely ladies, I have been nominated three times for the Kreativ Blogger Award. Josie, Trudy, and Ivalyn all thought me worthy. Of course, I need to tell seven things about myself. Hmmm.., I think I've shared quite a bit already. Maybe some of the new bloggers will say, "Oh I didn't know that." lol Also, I have to nominate seven other bloggers. Now that will be hard. Most of the crafty ladies have already been nominated. So hear goes:

Spottedroo
Stitch and Snitch
JTS Closet
Allisonc C Sewing Gallery
Faye's Sewing Adventure
Krustallos
Kbenco

These are just a few of the creative blogs that I follow. There are so many, many that have been nominated already. So consider this my short list.

Seven things about me..., What can I say that I haven't say before; I guess I could talk about current things:

-Going on a cruise pretty soon. Didn't make anything new to take with. Decided to finish client projects to free up my time and make a little cash. I've travelled a bit, but this is my first cruise and I'm so excited.

-Started sewing DD's wardrobe.

-Making three coats for me this fall/winter.

-Seriously thinking about going back to school. Also want to take a course or two at the neighborhood tailoring school. Can't until next year. I enjoy structured learning.

-Planning to create a line of accessories to sell.

-Planning to make most of my Christmas gift this year.

-This week I will complete my certification for non-linearing editing (CanTV). I'm one of the co-producer for the media services auxiliary at my church.

That's it for now. Happy sewing!
