To Color Block or Not
It's no wonder color blocking is everywhere. The fall color palette includes strong, bright reds, greens and blues. I must admit this trend was a bit over the top for me. My thinking, one strong color is enough. Brights from shoulder to toe maybe too much for me. So for the sake of testing the trend, I looked in my already full closet to see if I could come with a color blocked outfit. So I paired a McCalls blouse (made 2010)and a McCalls skirt (made 2009) then added some grey patent leather shoes to see if it was a passable trendy outfit.
Oprah magazine has a different take on color blocking for the fall season. blocks of bold colors in one garment or accessory. Here's how.
Some curvy ladies may think this trend is over the top; Essence magazine shared these opinions for embracing bold colors.

Cennetta, I really like your version--and I do like some color-blocking. My favorite is to take a neutral and a bright (remember Carol Scott's talk last year, where Italian designers were pairing charcoal with lime?).
ReplyDeleteI have always loved pink and purple together. Your combo looks great.
ReplyDeleteCenetta, I love love your color blocking..This is hot!
ReplyDeleteI remember some years ago that some fashion expert suggested "do away with color blocking", now it's right back in. I even have one color blocked dress on my pending fall list.
ReplyDeleteI love color blocking and I love your version. I am working on a color-block dress now.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing in those colors! I'm a big fan of color-blocking. Tho I have to admit, sometimes there are so many possibilities that it gets overwhelming and makes it hard to choose. I guess its good to start with 1 color and then pick others to block with it.
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for something new. So I'm all for giving the color blocking a try. I love the way you look in your skirt and blouse. I think you found a winner. I've started sketching some ideas for my own version. I like Patti's idea of charcoal and lime. Oh la la.
ReplyDeleteI can't see me wearing, say pink and orange together even though it seems to be everywhere, but I love a pop of colour now and then and I think your colours work really well together so I must give it a try.
ReplyDeleteyou look great Cennetta, those colors compliment you. I think color blocking is a great way to use color however I think its more the colors that are being used is what's important. It seems like the trend is to mix colors that oppose each other, that I don't understand.
ReplyDeleteYour combination looks really good. I like color blocking. I remember a color blocked blouse I made and loved wearing. For the past several years, I've focused on more muted colors and now I really behind the times.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI love the color blocking trend. Sometimes, yes, it seems a bit overboard, but it's also fun to challenge myself and go out of my comfort zone just a tad. It's also helped me pair colors I may have never paired before.
Go on just go for it! You look radiant. Now that is an old fashioned word for a modern look.
ReplyDeleteFabulous look! I like your color-blocking!
ReplyDeleteI love your version of color blocking. I like a pop of color, but I tend to pair it with a neutral. Maybe I will try something out of my comfort zone this season. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThat's a great outfit! My initial reaction to color blocking was negative, but it's really growing on me.
ReplyDeleteI like color blocking, and I do it often. Actually I have to make a concerted effort to get patterns in my wardrobe, so I guess I've been color blocking before we called it that. :)
ReplyDeleteThose colors look fabulously on you and also like the way you did the color blocking. Not sure if I am ready for it, although I am notorious for wearing bold abstract print...0__o
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on colorblocking: Love. It.
ReplyDeleteI love your take on colour blocking! You look very classy,IMO. I've been wanting to try something but don't know what yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your compliments and sharing your thoughts on color blocking.
ReplyDeleteI love colour blocking and you look so elegant in that outfit!
ReplyDeleteI like color blocking. Recently, I've seen some very cool looking mixtures of prints as well as solids. Not always easy to achieve successfully though.posw
ReplyDeleteThe more bold the better. I think your combo looks great!!! Step into the world of COLOR!!! It's fun and draws attention!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you've done colour blocking. I'm a little ambivalent about it - I think those of us who lived through it in the 80's are a little wary! I colour block in a similar way to you. In winter I might wear a black skirt, hot pink leggings and hot pink top with a black cardigan and pink accessories or some other version of the same. I also wear a lot of bright yellow and brown in winter so I guess I do colour block ...
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh I love color blocking and it's been a while since I've done anything! I'm definitely going to add some to my fall/winter wardrobe! You look absolutely stunning! Love they way you've pulled this outfit together!
ReplyDeleteLove the HOT pink and purple!

ReplyDeleteI think you did it very nicely. The colors are beautiful on you. Thanks for sharing that Essence article.
