This is supposed to be the final summer project. I hoped it would be a transition dress. We can definitely feel fall in the air, sunny and clear skies during the day and cool at night. Last week I thought I would finish this before the holiday. Instead I became less enthusiastic about the dress because I over estimated the FBA.
Yep…, I made a huge over estimate. See hear. Next to alterations, picking seams apart is my least favorite “sewing related” thing to do. But, I can’t let this fabric go to waste. So soon I will knuckle under and make the adjustments. I’m hoping I can remove some of the fabric at the base of the bodice.
This week I’m finishing DD’s dress for the Unity Conference along with sewing my dress and starting a suit for a client.
Here’s the pattern and fabric I selected for my dress. It’s Butterick 5520. I purchased my fabrics from Vogue (Satin - Matte finish) and Fishman (Silver and Cream Brocade). My dress is cut and ready to sew.

Your black & white dress is so pretty, I know what you mean about ripping out stitches. But this just can't got to waste it is so pretty. I also love the Butterick pattern I was thinking about getting that one for myself. I can't wait to see it made up.

To be very honest I really do not like doing alterations to patterns. It makes me confuse! Anyway, the fabric is wonderful! Very stylish! Love it!
I so know the feeling of ripping seams and the knits are the hard ones to remove stitches. The dress is very pretty and makes a lovely transition garment.
I hope you can work this out because I love this dress. I've made it a few times and it's a really comfortable and easy dress to wear. Your fabric is lovely and would be a shame to waste it.
Ouch, yes, alterations and ripping out stitching on anything are low on my sewing list, too! This dress really should be saved, though, it is perfect for the fall transition.
BTW, fabulous job on that coat zipper. They're not easy and that's a job I *always* turn down when asked.

That black and white dress is definitely worth the effort of saving - the fabric is beautiful and I can tell that the dress is really going to suit you. I love that Butterick pattern - I have it myself and am planning to make it very soon.

Oh my goodness!! Great minds think alike! Hehe... I actually have that fabric in my stash and just cutout that pattern to make it with that exact fabric... definitely planning on making it this weekend. What a coincidence! Sorry about the FBA... but it is a beautiful dress! Good luck unpicking all those stitches.

Great minds do think alike. Tee Hee. To answer your question, I didn't line any part of my dress. The vamp is low. So I plan to add a modesty panel. (I'll show it when I'm finished.). Another option to help with the transparency of the fabric is to wear a full slip. I know that's old fashion, but I wear them from time to time.

I love the fabric you picked for the vogue dress. I hope you can work out the changes. Although I love the dress, when I made it, it just didn't work for my body type at all. I can't wait to see your butterick dress.
