The Viking Gems - Designer Topaz
When a sewing machines is called a gem stone, is that enough to make you pause? Well I paused for several moments to hear and see what the Husqvarna Viking dealer had to say about the Viking gems. Last week, I had an opportunity to preview the Viking Designer Topaz 200, 300 and the Ruby. These beautiful machine are as pricey as the name sake, ranging from $2,500 to $5,500.
For months, I've been needing a new sewing machine and for years I have wanted an embroidery machine. The brilliant sparkle and fire of these stones left me wanting, no, needing to own one of them. What beauty. what features. Who could ask for more? I want one.
After leaving the store still on cloud nine, I thought, "Be reasonable. That is, too much money to pay for a sewing machine. There are five things I need in the same price range." Today I still want it. That is the Topaz 300. Do any of you own a Viking gem?
For those of you who want to know more about the "Gems", here is a link to the site: Explore the Topaz.
Happy Sewing!

I don't own a Viking Gem but I do own two TOL machines and I have to say that for the amount of sewing you do and the passion you have involved in your craft, you should go for it! My TOL sewing machines make sewing sooooo much easier and more fulfilling. I hope you succumb to purchase it!
ReplyDeleteI don't own a Viking Gem, but I covet one. If you'd buy one I could have the vicarious pleasure of watching you use it. So, you see, your purchase would be a selfless act for the good of the sewing community.
ReplyDeleteI kinda agree w/ Carolyn... not only do you you sew on your own (enough of a reason to get one), but you make money on the side doing projects for others, right? So it might pay for itself over the course of a decade.
ReplyDeleteI have an older TOL, a Bernina 1630 It's about 20 years old now and yes I've been looking at the Topaz. I prefer a seperate embroidery machine. I hesitated to buy my first TOL. With software the 1630 cost me about $3500. Later, I purchased software upgrades and feet. Oh my, the feet I have purchased. I've spent more on feet than on software. But I love this machine and wouldn't want to sew on anything lessor. So I agree with carolyn, as much as you sew and if that's a good dealer, by all means buy the machine your can't get out of your mind.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Carolyn. Sewing is an important part of your life and why shouldn't you have the very best tools available if that is what you want.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything everyone else has said. I bought a TOL Bernina, the 930, almost 30 years ago. It's still my go to machine and I love it as much as I did the day I brought it home. On the other hand the one you're eyeing is a bit pricy. What about trade-ins? They often carry the same warranty as new.
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone. I'm leadning towards purchasing the Topaz 300. It is a little pricey.
ReplyDeleteMy "old faithful" machine (Singer Quantum)died on me this past winter. It was nearly 20 years old. It was on sale for $1200, regular price over $2K. At the time, I thought it would a great investment. And of course, it paid for itself twenty times over.
The Topaz will be the first Viking for me. So there is no trade-in to offset the cost. At the demo, I submitted my name in a lottery for a Ruby. The Sale's Associate said, "If I buy the Topaz then win the Ruby, I will be reimbursed." Viking also has a special: one and two year no interest financing for the three gems.
Thanks again,
Cennetta
I own a Husqvarna Designer 1 and "love" it...go for it..you truly deserve it :))))
ReplyDeleteI had the same argument with myself about expending more than $2000 on a high quality overlockers. I went back 6 times in 6 months and finally went ahead. It was worth it. I also bought a new sewing machine, better than my singer, but much more modest. I don't regret that purchase either, despite the fact that I could have flown to New York and back twice for the money.
ReplyDeleteI bought a top of the line Brother seven years ago. I still love it and I've never wanted another one. I really think it will always be enough for me. I love it and I'm guessing you will love the gem.
ReplyDeleteI have two combo embroidery/sewing machines and I'll never by a combo again.
ReplyDeleteI tried out the Janome 6600P - it's amazing. It's a professional home machine, has tons of stitches and sews beautifully. It's a fraction of the cost around $1200.
I currently have the Janome 1600P - which is a professional straight stitch and love it!
check out the Janome 6600P - it's great!

I don't own any Vikings but I do have a TOL Pfaff that is at least 10 years old and she is still going strong. Considering how much you create, you should go for it. Sometimes we just have to do it. It does look like a lovely machine.
ReplyDeleteSo what have you decided? LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement. I still haven't succumb to purchases it. I'm weak though, Lol.
