Happy Birthday To My One and Only DD

DD at 3 years old

Today is my DD's Birthday. She turns 21 at 12:35pm. I can't believe it! It doesn't seem like it. I'm very proud of her and glad God gave her to me. DD will start her fourth year of college and has enrolled in the UIC internship program. It will take DD five years to complete the BA requirement, same as most student in her college. The internship program will teach her how to develop good resume and how to interview well. It will also serve as a networking base for potential employers.

I'll probably make her an interviewing wardrobe within the next year. Once she completes the program, hopefully she'll gain employment in her major. It's my hope that DD completes the master's program. Anyway..., the decision is hers to make and I'll support here decision.

So tonight the family will be celebrating and dining at Chez Joel on Taylor Street. DD will be celebrating with friends for next two weeks. What fun it is to be young.

Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married

This weekend I went to see Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I get Married”. It’s a great movie. There is nothing to dislike about this movie. The cast, the storyline, and cinema photography were all great. It is always a welcomed change to see a movie that speaks to the inter-personal relationships of friends and married couples. This movie more than scratches the surface of those things that strengthen, weaken or destroy relationships or families. In my opinion Tyler Perry is phenomenal. I love his artistry and am happy for his success in the movie industry. He has gone from sleeping in a car to owning a production company! Wow!

John Legend Concert in Chicago

On April 13, 2007, my sisters and two of my very close friends attended a John Legend concert at the Chicago theatre in Chi-town. We had a fantastic time. To start the evening we all met at the Carnivale restaurant. We enjoyed authentic Latino cuisine. After dinner, we excitedly travelled to the concert location were we continued to feast on the smooth soulful crooning of the fabulous John Legend (Stephens). By night's end we all had a greater appreciation for the "Legend" and his music. John Legend

Here is the outfit that I made to wear to the concert. I purchased the faux leather fabric ($5.95 yd) from the local Walmart about a month or so before the concert not with the intention to make an outfit for this particular event. Please forgive the wrinkles. This post comes three months after the concert. The outfit had been stored in the back of the closet, almost ready for cooler weather minus the wrinkles. You can read more about the creation of this outfit at Pattern Review.
