Who Is Jill Scott? Making It Hot in Chi-Town

Last week I had the absolute pleasure of attending another Jill Scott concert. It was all I expected it to be. Ms. Jill Scott and Maxwell, both center stage at the United Center in Chicago.

My sister, friends, and I where seated in the mezzanine, entering at Gate 6. The house was packed with fans from around the Chicago land area. Much excitement filled the stadium. Each time I am privileged to attend a concert I find myself scanning the arena and thinking about the number of people attending. It's so amazing to me to see the crowd of spectators. Jill was on first.

If you don't know Jill's music, I'm here to tell you she is a artist in the true sense of the word. Her poetic lyrics pull you in. Then the melodious voice add body and richness to the stories that she tells. Jill is phenomenal. With her killer vocals, she belted out all of my favorite tunes: A Long Walk, He Loves Me, Golden. Just to name a few.

Some call her music neo-soul, a sweet mixture of contemporary R&B and 70's style music with elements of hip-hop. I call it beautiful. There was a moment in the show where Jill did this operatic run at the end of a song. Her range and ability is off the chart. Clearly she is in a class by herself. No need to say I enjoyed the concert. It was worth the money.

I would be remiss not to mention the soulful sounds of Maxwell. He followed Jill in song with his greatest hits and some new music. His jam session was noteworthy. All in all the concert was worth it.

Ramblings: Sewing, Fashion Fall 2009, Beyonce

Happy Monday everyone!

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

Unfortunately, I didn't sew a stitch this weekend. I wanted to, but it just didn't happen. This week I hope to cut out a few items for myself and DD. Very little progress on the "Career Wardrobe" design for DD. I do have a few patterns and fabric in mind, but nothing final.

On Friday, I was spying Carolyn's flickr set. She has already posted some ideas for her Elegant Fall wardrobe. My goodness, she is super proactive. I'm still working on the summer wardrobe. At the next pattern sale, I'm going to grab the hooded jacket and Badgley Mischka dress pattern. Super cute.

This weekend I got to see Ms. Beyonce in concert (second time around). She is an all around entertainer. This year's concert had more of a little bit of everything: rock, pop, rap, and Beyonce, Destiny's Child, and Sasha. The special affects put me in the mind of the MJ 1988 concert at the Rosemont Horizon. The 2007 program was more appealing to me, but I still enjoyed it. At various point of the concert, the music and the roar of the crowd was deafening. Either I’m getting old or it was really loud. Lol Here's is an opening shot of friday night's conert.

Tickets were $25 more than the 2007 price, inflation. No dinner outing this time. lol

Memorial Week End - ReCap

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. Long weekends are such a treat. I’m always grateful for an extra day off work.

Weekend Re-cap:

Thursday I received an invite to the Friday night Kanye West (with featured artists Rihanna, NERD, and Lupe Fiasco) concert. This was definitely not my scene. There are only a few rap artists that I like: Grand Master Flash, Curtis Blow, Will Smith, Common. .., I’m so old school. Any way…, Kanye West did his thing! He is definitely a showman.

Saturday: A little shopping, cooking, cleaning, and sewing.

JoAnn’s and Hancock’s had pattern sales. I picked up ten or so. It’s crazy because I’m supposed to be on a pattern diet. Lol I was able to get five tops made over the weekend: four knit and one woven. The only one that I will review is the woven. The others have been reviewed on Patternreview many times already. Most of them I've made at least twice before. These tops are options for the Naples, Florida mini-wardrobe. So far, I’ve finished three pairs of pants and the five tops. If time permits I want to make one jacket. The plan is to take a few of the new pieces to compliments two suits that are already in the suitcase. The attire for the meeting is business casual. I really don’t need to “suit up” for the conference as I’m not a presenter; my boss is.

Sunday: Church, cooking and sewing.

Monday: DD and I had a photo shoot of all the pieces including a jacket, suit, and dress. Unfortunately, most of the photos aren’t good. So we have to redo them. I was hoping to post them today. Tonight, if I’m not too tired will re-take a few.

In the afternoon we had a family Bar-b-que at my sister’s home to celebrate my niece’s 13th birthday. Great time with the family.

Happy Sewing!
