Vogue V2097 - Emerald Green Crepe Pants Suit

I'm finished it!  I'm so happy to finally be able to share my newest Vogue (V2097) outfit!

This outfit suits me.  I love so many details about the design and how everything came together.  If you have been following my journey of making this suit, I posted details on my pattern adjustments and the construction process.  Here is where you can read about the process.

Pattern Description:  Partially lined, hourglass shape V-neck top sewing pattern, fitted through waist, has concealed front button closure, decorative flaps and asymmetric collar.  Fitted skirt, has invisible back zipper and back vent.  Semi-fitted pants have front pleats, side pockets and invisible back zipper.

Pattern Sizing:  Size groupings (6 - 14) & (16 - 24)  I used size 16 with modifications.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it does.  I made a few changes with the closure of the pants.  More later.

Were the instructions easy to follow?  Yes, there was nothing difficult in the instructions.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I have several likes.  They are:
  • Collar
  • Pleated bodice
  • Pleated high waisted pants
  • In-seam buttonhole
  • Darts at neckline
  • Faux pockets
Dislikes:
  • Back zipper
  • Partially lined jacket

Fabric Used:  Stretch Polyester Crepe - Emerald Green from Mood Fabrics.  I love this fabric.  I bought three colors:  black, blue violet and the emerald green.  They have this stretch poly crepe in twelve different colors.  The crepe was a dry hand.  It is easy to handle and sew.  It hangs away from the body.  Great fabric to work with.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made my usual fit adjustments.  See my Notes on a Pattern post.    For the pants, I put the zipper in the front, change the closure of the waistband, and lengthen the pants as needed.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?  Oh yes, I will make it again and again.  Lol  And yes, I do recommend it to others.  Make sure you make a muslin before cutting into your beautiful fabric.

Conclusion:  I am so very happy with how this outfit turned out.  I love everything about it: the style, fabric, and color. I would consider this an advanced intermediate level project.

Parting Shot:  My Babylon Leather Bucket Tote Bag is a perfect complement to this outfit.

Silky Print and Suiting are Matched - Simplicity S3103 and Vogue V1294

Next, Outfit sharing posts is Simplicity S3103 and Vogue V1294.  Good combination.  Still in some neutral tones for some mixing and matching.

I really like these coordinates together.  All I need is a orange, ivory or black jacket.  Hmmm..., more sewing projects added to the never ending list.  Previous post on this outfit is here.

Notes on a Pattern - Vogue V1387

Today, I wanted to share a few notes on Vogue V1387, view A.  This pattern has been in my collection for a several years.  I hesitated to attempt to make the full bust adjustment (FBA).  I thought about it and determine the following would be the way to go.  There is probably a more effective solution, but this is how I chose to tackle the fit adjustment.

I started with slashing the upper bodice vertically from the pleated area to the waist, adding paper to fill the space.

Next, I added length by slashing the front bodice horizontally.  The same amount of length was added to the back upper bodice (not shown).

Then, I redistributed the pleats and the space between them.  Now, there are three pleats instead of two.

After making these adjustments, I made a muslin to check the fit.  When I tried on the muslin, I identified a few more adjustments needed.  NOTE:  don't skip sewing the armband and gusset. It will help you determine if there is a good fit in the armhole and bust and upper back areas.

Additional adjustments after fitting the muslin:

  • more vertical width (front bodice) resulting in a fourth pleats.
  • more vertical width across the back.  I noticed pull at the shoulder blades.
  • added tuck in the yoke at the upper back.
  • added length where the shoulder seam would be.
  • reduced fullness at the lower back just above the waist.

More later.

Another Sandra Betzina Pattern - Vogue V1805 Views A and B

I reviewed View B of this pattern last month.  Today, I'm posting View A.  This is the View that convinced me to purchase the pattern in the first place.  I love the sleeves and the effect of the stripes.  I thought it was pretty cool.  Stripes going in many directions but somehow are very organized at the same time. The tie was cute too.  It looks very chic.

My striped fabric has been in my collection for over five years.  I purchased it at Mood Fabrics.  It is soft and has about 40 percent stretch with great recovery.

The body of the top sewed together the same as View B.,  The sleeves has two pieces: an over and under sleeve.  The over sleeve is gathered to create the balloon affect.  The tie has two separate pieces as well. The pattern suggest a contrasting solid color fabric for the under tie.  I just use the same fabric and turned the stripes in a different direction.  It worked out fine.

In the above photos, I wearing View A with my TNT knit pants Vogue V8859.  I've made these pants at least 15 times.  An great basic pants.

Below, I'm wearing the first top, View B.  It has already become a basic go to staple.

It's Been Awhile

Hi Sewing Friends,

It has been awhile since I posted any sewing projects.  A lot has happened in the past month and a half.  Here are some highlights.

Me and one of my sewing students made a trek up to Vogue Fabrics in Evanston to see what we could see and buy.  Lol

I had an eye procedure to remove a cyst from my right eye.  It had been there for over a year but didn't hurt. What brought me to the ophthalmologist in the first place was I had started seeing floaters in that same eye.  To my surprise, I learned that floaters are a common condition that happens with age.  The eye becomes more fluid over time.  Anyway, the cyst was removed mid March, and it took some time for my eye to heal.

Other news, my nephew, Christopher wanted to make a turkey dinner, but didn't know how.  I volunteered to teach  him how to roast a turkey, cook collar greens, corn, and make some buttery potatoes.  His meal turned out very well.  We sat down with my daughter and had a lovely dinner.

We had two book club meetings: March and April.  Both books were good, but I like the second the most.

I didn't take any photos of my garments until a month after my eye procedure.  Now, I'm just starting to post me wearing them.

I'm showcasing Vogue V1937 view A, worn with Vogue V1929 pants.
