Easter Dress for DD Pattern Fitting S2724 - Part I

It's easy to work a pattern fitting for DD because she's home with me and is usually around when I'm sewing for her. So instead of doing a muslin fitting, I do a pattern fitting. I'm making S2724, the pink view with 3/4 sleeves for Easter. The fabric that I'm using is an emerald green silk dupioni purchased at Hancock's. The dress does not call for a lining, which I prefer. After experimenting with draping the ambiance lining and the silk over my hand and forearm I decided to underline it for a more polished look. Pretty inside and out. I also thought underlining would be best for the pleating and the full sleeves.

Here's the fitting process:

I cut the pattern at size 10. Noted from front view she needs a FBA and a little move in the shoulder area.

Pattern Fitting back of bodice DD's Easter Dress. There is pulling in the upper back and shoulder area. Plus I forget to pin the back waist pleat.

FBA

Broad shoulder and FBA for DD's Easter Dress. It's still uneven at the waist.

  1. I just finished making this same view for my daughter. It's a really pretty dress. The one thing I wish I had done differently was put the zipper in the center back; the pattern calls for a side zipper which is not the easiest to put on.

  2. I love this pattern and I can't wait to see how this turns out. The emerald green silk sounds gorgeous. Also, the dinner dance dress from the previous post looks like it's going to be beautiful.

  3. Thanks so much for this level of detail. It is helpful to see how to properly fit a pattern to one's body.

  6. I love to tissue fit too. I know enough of what my issues are to make this a pretty easy thing to do. You seem to know exactly what your dd's fit issues are too. Another cute figure to sew for!

  8. I like the pattern you DD selected. I can wait to see the finish results also. Thanks so much for sharing the fitting process. It's GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Q1:Did you cut the pattern based on your DD high bust? Q2:Is it safe to say that, since the pattern didn't come to your DD CF, she needed a FBA which gave her more width?

  9. Thanks ladies for commenting on this project.

Daisy - You were so right on about the zipper. Instead of putting a 14 inch zipper in I inserted a 22 inch stopping at about 18 inches. This allowed her to get in the dress more easily.

Charlene - Last year my DD developed more "curve". I was cutting her pattern at size 8 and I added to the shoulder area and the center front. So this year I decided to try size 10. Still had the same problem. Her measurement have increased about 1 1/2 in the bust area, cup size changed. So I thought it would be best to do a small FBA rather than add more to the center front.
