Inspiration - Haute Couture Club of Chicago - Fashion Show 2013

Now that the prom season is coming to a close (still one more dress to review), I'm turning my thoughts to fashion show 2013 projects. Next year I want to make something truly outstanding. I want to make something that has a tremendous Wow factor. At the same time I want to incorporate some trend related aspect into a few of my projects plus try a few more couture techniques. Below are a few trends I that piqued my interest.

Printed Blazer
Standout Pants
Embellished Trench
Lace Skirt
Floral Body Suit
     and of course,
Peplum Top (New Look 6030 is cute)

For today's inspirational post, I hone in on the embellished trench. I will make at least one coat during the next six months, and it may as well include some aspect of the popular trends of the day. There are many forms of embellishment. It's basically the act of adding extraneous decorations to something. As it relates to sewing, it can be as simple as sewing on an applique or trim. Or it can be as elaborate as manipulating layers of the fabric. I am drawn to several of the garments published in Cadena Mode Autumn 2010-2011.

So here goes, I hope these choices inspire you too.

Jacquard patchwork coat with chintz finish.

Big flowers jacquard coat trimmed with passementerie on collar and cuffs.

Silk tweed (plaid) coat with patchwork embroidered details.
Jacquard coat with flowers and animal print.

Alpaca coat with line drawing made with two tones of same textile cuts, Satin silk blousson with woollen guipure overskirt

Organza embroidered dress and organza coat trimmed on same fabric than dress.

Jacquard velvet coat with geometric design and sequins dress crossed on waist.

Printer silk and wool coat, silk printed dress wit small channels on body.

Embroidery silk coat black skirt with broad belt and chiffon shirt crossed in collar and sleeves.

Spring 2010 - Cadena! Can You Stand Some More?

Can you stand some more inspiration? Maybe not for those of you who saw the Oscars last night. So many fabulous dresses. There were a few nice tuxedos on the red carpet as well.

But for the sake of sewing "Real Way" instead of "Run Way", here are a few more of my favorites from the Spring Catalog. Enjoy!

Great details on this jacket. The white on black is something I want to incorporate into one of my Spring/Summer projects.

I've been wanting a similar jacket for a while. I need move it closer to the up of the ole list.

The layering technique used in this outfit is outstanding. It's fresh and doesn't look over done. (Side note - the models have big beautiful hair.)

Great use of fabric. The combination of the chiffon (belt) and the boucle (jacket) is interesting. The colors remind me of a dewy spring morning with the scents of gardenias and jasmine flowing in the air.

The big flower is definitely over the top. But I like the idea of the side flounce instead of a slit.

Cadena! The Ultimate Fashion Inspiration

This is my favorite silhouette. I love the lace skirt. I would have chosen a different color for the belt though.

On Friday, I picked up my Cadena Spring 2010 catalog. This is my all time favorite fashion magazine. The fashion and illustration are superb.

Love, love. This lace is simply beautiful.

This season they feature layers, fluid and jacquard fabrics in a variety of silhouettes. Every page has something to like. I went through the magazine about five times before deciding which fashion I would share for inspiration. It was HARD. So I ended up selecting about nineteen outfits as favorites only posting a few of them here. The magazine is worth buying. Trust me.

Fishman's (312-922-3396) has a few left for sale. The cost is $30.00. Asked for Patricia; she handles the sale of Cadena magazine. In the store, they also have the catalog with all the fabric featured in the magazine. You can special order it from Cadena.

Here we go!

The jacket on the left has so many great design elements. The belt, two length sleeves, rolled/scrolled collar. Love it.

Tones of grey. The cinched waist is also a feature in many of the details. The fabric is

Tier or layers is one of the featured elements of this season's Cadena magazine.

The piping is great in this jacket. I like the brown/beige hues of the outfit. One of my goals is to add piping to a garment.

I like the colors of these outfits.

Simple Chic

Tip-Toe Through the Tulips Cadena Mode - Fall 2008

The Cadena Mode Fall 2008 issue is just as beautiful as the previous issues that I own. This is a great fashion magazine. In this issue, Cadena is featuring florals, interesting embellishments, unique silhouettes, the color palette ranging from bold brights to soft neutrals hues. There is something for everyone: classic designs to the latest trendy chic Runway styles.

One of my favorite design elements of this issue is the Tulip. This design is featured in day wear and in eye-catching evening attire.

This Evening Gown - Is not a Tulip, but the skirt imitates flower petals.

Cadena is published in the Spring and Fall and can be purchase at Fishman's Fabric (Desplaines and Roosevelt-Chicago). I've already reserved my copy of the Spring 2009 issue.
