Haute Couture - Part II

Alethia of Kassmin's Creations suggested that I check out a video on You Tube about Couture sewing. Thanks, Alethia. I couldn't find the suggested video, but I did find several related to fashion.

This is Chanel Haute Couture.

There is an entire series on the House of Chanel. This one is Episode 3 Rituals Part 3 of 4.

  1. Oh I just love this series! And the lady who makes the braid is my favorite. What’s interesting to me about haute couture technique is that each House has their own way of doing construction. From the research I’ve done, the business model is the same across every House (because it's required by French law) but aside from basic construction each House appears to use its own very individual techniques, especially in the finishing stages. Much of the technique you see used at Chanel has been developed by that House over the past 80 years in response to Coco Chanel's very particular design aesthetic.

  3. I'm finally sitting down to watch the series now. If only I could quit my job, move to Paris, and become a Chanel seamstress....ok I'm back to earth now, lol!

  4. Ann,

Me too! They are great! I found a few other videos related to couture sewing on You Tune. I searched on "Haute Couture" and "Couture". Yesterday I was thinking about writing one more post about defining haute couture. I want to incorporating some of the basic techniques in my sewing projects.
