The Urban College Girl Collection - Jeans V7481

Last night I was able to complete the first pair of pants for DD’s Fall Collection – The Urban College Girl. She has been anxiously waiting for these jeans. This is one of several UFO’s waiting to be finished. Lol

Pattern Description: MISSES' PANTS Close-fitting, below-waist pants have front button waistband, shaped back yokes and fly zipper closing. A: above-ankle, stitched hems. B: narrow hem. A,B: boot-legged, carriers and pockets. C: floor length. Purchased top and contour belt. I made view B

There is a lot of top stitching. So I purchased some bright yellow embroidery thread to accent the dark blue denim. I used a size 16 Jean needle in my sewing machine.

Pattern Sizing: (6, 8, 10), (12, 14, 16), (18, 20, 22)
At upper hip, I tapered from a size 6 to a 8. No other changes were made.

The drawing on the pattern envelope was pretty close to the actual finished garment. The rise appears to be a little lower in the drawing.

The instructions were easy to follow. This pattern is well drafted. No problems in the construction. It took about four hours to make these jeans. The edges were already finished as I overlocked them several months ago.

DD was very pleased with the style and fit. But, I thought there were a little wrinkles just below the butt cheek that may need to be corrected before I use this pattern again.

Fabric Used: Stretch Denim that my dad gave me several years ago. I used some left over cotton from a previous project for the pocket lining. DD loves the soft touch of this fabric. Don’t know the exact fiber content. I did pre-shrink the fabric before cutting the jeans.

I made no alterations.

Conclusion This pattern is a great jean pattern. I will probably use it again making some variations on the style, adding back pockets or maybe a rhinestone here or there.

  3. I like these a lot. They remind me of one of my favorites: Vitamina jeans. They are conservative wash but fashion forward style. Nice job!!!

  5. Wow these look great!!! Can't wait to see the second pair. Looking at your daughter's gave me the idea to transfer the waist dart on the back of my daughter's jeans to a side seam dart to create a yoke. Maybe on the third pair--I need to work on her baggy butt/back leg issue for the second pair. Too many alterations at once will make my head spin.

  11. Great jeans. I'm pretty intimidated about making jeans myself, but I did purchase a jeans pattern as of late, so maybe sometime soon...
